| Building An Apostolic House
For quite some times now my studies have been directed to the Acts church. Not only its doctrine, but also its function and how it related to the world around it and in particular how it functioned internally as a structure. That has further lead me to search out again what truly constituted an Apostolic house. Many have asked, "what do you mean by an 'Apostolic house'". The church has been likened to a number of things. To name a few: "His bride", His "body", a "building", a "household", as well as the "house of God". .
We are God's Building.
The church as Gods building suggests at least two things. First, it suggests a structure that is "fitly framed together". Eph.2:19-22. It is something that has definition and structure. It is vitally important for us to seek out and find what that definition and structure is. Structure it must have. Much like a river that has boundaries. Anything less become like a flood, destroying every in its path. I am convinced, however, that too many religious movements, no matter how well intended, always finds definition and structure from the past religious movements. Most of these movements are either blatantly sterile or either relics of the past.
Secondly, it suggest to me by the term "building" that it is a work still in progress. Christ is still building his church. Heb.3:3-6. It is both comforting and motivating to know that He is in control. He controls the various phases of this work in progress with its timing. We must be as the Old Testament sons of Issachar who had an "understanding of the times". 1 Chron.12:32. Understanding the timing of God relieves frustration and motivates us to live in anticipating of what God is up to next. That's where I want to live. Right in the big middle of what God is doing!
